Founded in the same year as our motherland, Zhengzhou No.1 High School boasts a history of over sixty years. Designated A key High School at the Provincial Level by the Education Department of Henan Provincial government in 1959, our school has  been successively conferred the title"The First Batch well-Run provincial key High  Schools" and"The First Batch provincial Demonstration High Schools"by the  aforementioned authority. We also earned the title"The First and second Batch China'Top Hundred High Schools"by China Education Daily and the Sina. com. in 2005 and 2007. Sixty years of achievements, sixty years of glory, Zhengzhou No.1 High School has scored remarkable accomplishments in its teaching: We boast six gold medals and one silver in the International Olympic Competition for Middle School students. Every year nearly thirty students are admitted to Peking University and Tsinghua University, and about 60% of our students go to renowned key universities at home and abroad.

The spirit of Zhengzhou No.1 High School we have been pursuing is: Take independence and liberty as the foundation of students'physical and mental healthy growth and development. Liberty is the corner-stone of the students'independent development, creativity and sense of responsibility.  Fully aware of high school students'unique characteristics in their physical and mental growth, Zhengzhou No.1 High School attaches great importance to the fostering of students"sense of independence in both their study and life.

Taking the arousing of students' sense of independence as the starting-point, and  improving the students'independent ability as the central task, and fostering the  students'independent spirit as  the primary goal,  Zhengzhou No.1 High School  enjoys a rich and varied campus life. Through colorful activities our students  learn  to  take good care of themselves in their daily life, conduct themselves  with  dignity  in  character-building;  teach  themselves  in  their  study  and they also learn to  discipline and govern themselves.

Over the years, Zhengzhou No.1 High School has fostered a unique teaching system, ie; S-T teaching system. Based on students'liberty and independence in their study and growth, the system contains five categories:  Teaching in international Olympic Competition for Middle School students; tailored teaching suited to students'academic levels; Case study; Lecture courses; and rich and varied optional courses. This year, based on the ongoing new curriculum, we started another three optional courses for the freshmen; namely; Inter-disciplinary courses, tutor-based courses and Interest-specialty-based courses. With individual function, these three courses can well meet our students'individual needs: their independent time management, independent choice of teachers and independent development of their interest and speciality.

We also boast over a dozen students'organizations and clubs: Xinquan(heart spring) LiteratureClub;Xinhui(heartpainting)Painters'Club;Xinwu(dancingheart)Dancing Club;Xinyuan(hearty  aid )Psychology Association; Song of the youth Chorus, Charity Association and a Drama Club. They start and manage their own publications, hold their own shows and exhibitions, conduct their own communication parties and offer their own community services. Our campus is brimming with youthful vitality. The Students'Union exercises Grade-based self-government and two new departments were added last year: the dormitory department and the canteen department. They independently solicit suggestions, work out the rules, air their views, communicate with each other and carry out their work. They bring the students'self-governing into full play and greatly contribute to our school'effective and efficient management mechanism.
